Well-listed artist: Lucien Lièvre (Paris, 1878-1936)
Oil painting on linen canvas, 25 3/4" x 21 1/2", Interior
The artist's work is well-represented in top art museums, and my references to prior auction sales are shown on a panel of our photos, sale prices ranging $1900 to $5399 through Sotheby's, Bonhams, a further mention of range up to $47,000 for one work. He competed for and won the Grand Prix de Madagascar and Prix de l'Indochine, with residencies and bursaries in both countries. He was appointed a Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur. Here we have an intimate Paris apartment interior. There's a sense of pointillist feel to the blue and whites, and a loose stroke to his brush, particularly up close, and from a distance it holds together as the inviting interior. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition, oil painting on stretched linen canvas. Likely early 1900s, signed by the artist lower right, but not dated. There are no holes, no tears, no losses to the painting, and I see no evidence of restoration. The painting is without frame, and is in display on my walls in that way, but would be wonderful framed to your taste, as well. Someone like me, with so many many months spent in various Paris apartments, I find it such a pleasing charming painting.
