Gorgeous pair of antique French Empire c. 1810-1830 gilt gesso on wood picture frames, scrolled Empire style accenting and each holding marvelous portrait miniature style intaglio prints of 18th century female artists and/or musicians: Elisabeth Sophie Cheron (artist, poet, musician) and Marie-Madeleine Rospigliosi (Madame Le Hay, poet, musician)! The prints are not original to the frames but don't they look fantastic together! The frames the real treasure here, beautiful OLD pieces and ready to hang. One of two pairs that we're adding this week so be sure to also take a look at the others while you're with us. Over the years, we've acquired quite a few superb old prints and truly exceptional picture frames in all sizes and will be working at getting them listed...hopefully in the near future.
Very good condition, age considered. As noted, the prints are not original to the frames. There is some wear to the gilding and a bit of chipping here and there, our images are large and clear so you will get what you see. You can see from the backs that they're original old Empire frames with the dovetail style corner reinforcements but there is newer paper covering to hold the prints and glass.
