Such an interesting tiny treasure, a specially made leather-clad case or etui which holds just a single vanity tool. In the 18th century to earliest 19th century large travel vanity cases, a typical tool would be the bright steel tweezers with an ear wax spoon on opposite end. I'm adding to sewing items because women often ran their silk thread across a little ear wax in order to thread needles - interesting, no? This one is the first I've ever seen or found that came in its own case.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type (c.1780s - 1820) Preserved almost perfectly for over 200 years, it must have been a gift, don't you agree? Certainly not something put to use from the condition of it. The only sign of wear is to the leather there where the clasp has been opened and closed. Very clean, very charming! Full measurements noted on photos. NOTE: photographed against silk embroidery panel which helps us adjust for color, and is only a backdrop - not included in the sale of the little red case and tool.
