I feel quite certain this is a 19th century Italian carved bracket shelf, though it has a feeling of Swiss Black Forest to it and could certainly go to that aesthetic. Beautifully crafted, it has a figure and lots of detail, lightly (and likely later) accented with gold. I love the finished appeal. A serpentine shelf with elegant carved and beveled edge. The old hanging brackets are in place, large and the shelf's measurements are noted on the photos. Would be beautiful with a clock, sculpture, or even to under a platter or a blue/white Oriental vase or urn. I found this old beauty in France.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I see nothing broken nor repaired. I do think the gold accent is a later addition for decorative purpose, but it is nicely done and does a nice job highlighting the carving. Measurements are noted on the photos, and the scalloped top shelf is also shown. Hardware is the old original, rather large and sturdy as can be.
