Superb antique French hand carved armorial crest frame housing a pair of very interesting hand drawn portraits. The portraits are of "Albert Comte de Chasiergues-Ornano" and his wife, "de Julia Lacroix de Tramayes", and the crown topped frame is one of Royal lineage. The hound and crow and additional crest elements are wonderful, aren't they! I'm in love with the drawings - unique background done in vertical lines, really. And they're signed by the artist, as well, "A. Orcel", and dated 1919. The gentleman is dressed for his time with his bowler hat in hand, and his wife is in an historical gown that dates back to another era, it would seem. Superb portraiture! Superb frame! There is a French book online and available to anyone who wants to read about the Chasiergues family, by the way. Lineage dating back to 1400s, Noble family, however it ends with references in 1815, and tells us nothing of this particular gentleman and wife. Another reference tells us this Count (Comte) was inducted as a Knight of the Sovereign Order of Malta , (see Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem - Knight) on 10 July 1894, and that he was born September 17, 1855 and died 15 October, 1922 at the age of 67. So this portrait was done just 3 years before the Count died. His wife was born November 13, 1861 and died at age 80 in 1941, so they are pictured here just after the end of WWI, and neither had to live through WWII. They were married on 10, May, 1885 and had 2 sons. Handsome couple, histories! Measures 13.5" across and 11.5" tall to top of crown. Each aperture is 7.5" x 5".

Very good condition throughout. I see nothing by way of chips or cracks or damage. The drawings are superb and have no damage, either. In conte, pencil and colored pencil or water color, they are both original drawn portraits, each signed by the artist as noted above. Frame is hand carved wood, has an easel stand on back.
