Even the hardware is hand designed and cast special for the miniature furniture items like this one, made by apprentice to the French Master ebaniste (ebeniste) or cabinet maker as a test of the skills they have learned so far. These small 'made at fractional scale' furniture items are one of a kind. While they were created to test the skill of the apprentice, they remain today highly sought after by collectors and by doll enthusiasts, as well. This is a medium sized chest at a little over 12" widest, and it's probably dated latest 1800s or so, based on the work and form. The student would have shown here their skill in veneer, design, cast bronze hardware and trim - all designed within the strictures of period furniture styles, as well. Some of the older ones are so fine, we've had them sell over $6000 range at auction. This is not quite to that standard, but you can see why they're particularly enjoyed by collectors.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. There are a few light abrasions visible that will disappear with a little 'Old English' but we like to show you any wear on wood such as this one. No lifts or loss to the veneers which are nicely worked in a manner typical of the Kingwood (which it is). The alabaster or white marble top is nicely cut for this piece and is not damaged in any way. Very light grey veining visible - that is not stain or damage but natural coloration to the stone. Hardware is unique to this chest and would have been cast in the 'lost wax' method, one piece at a time. Nice form! Nice size! Nice condition and a great buy. Don't miss it. We have several of these about to list. Watch for the others. They never last in our shop inventory - these are hard to find and they do sell fast!
