These old things always delight me! This one is extra large at over 9" long, 5" tall, and most likely had a removable monkey (or 2) seated as carriage driver and one seated on horse's back. I've seen one before, Paris, marked more than double our price on this superb old Palais Royal boutique souvenir, mid-1800s or earlier. The horse is a solid white metal cast, reminiscent of the Blackamoor aperitif service figures and cups of the same era. While it looks like one of those liqueur servers, it's actually a hinged box. The two little buckets seem like liqueur shot cups, but they are also decorative. The spigot is not a working one, and as noted, it is a charming trinket box. Large, it stands 5" tallest and is 9+" long. Like the smaller mother of pearl half-shell carriages, my final photo shows it alongside a couple of them we have, sold separately. Would even be fun as a cigar server, wouldn't it.

Very good to excellent for age and type, the large carriage wheels do turn, and the harness is all made separately and of contrasting brass. Spigot is not a working one, but made to look like the liqueur servers of the same era. No chips or flaws on the opaline glass barrel. I can find 2 spots I think were once soldered, and I've marked them. I'm not certain how long ago, but the spots are very stable, firm and you'd have to go looking for them. Wheels have deep axels. So fun! I do think there was once a monkey or 2, dressed as coachmen, cast in brass, who would have been removable parts to this one, seated as driver and horseman.  No monkeys remain.  Isn't it just the most fun!
