As you can see, this one has such beautiful pearlescent shimmer and color to both halves of the old mother of pearl shells which comprise it's 'egg'. Early to mid-1800s, Palais Royal boutiques' whimsical trinkets and souvenirs for Grand Tour elite, Royals, etc. of society who frequented that lauded old Richelieu Palace from late 1700s through to Napoleon III and even today. A stone's throw from the Louvre, it remains a center of commerce, theatre, dining, and a leisurely stroll through the past, back to Louis XIV's time. Closed, it stands 5 3/8" tall, base is 2 3/4" diameter, perfume bottles are 1 3/4" tall, closed.

Very good to excellent condition, no damage to the alabaster base, nor to either of the big mother of pearl half shells which are well-mounted in their framework. The mechanical stand opens and closes with the compression of that little flower up top of the stem, and reveal the original 2 perfume flasks, bottles, flacon still within. Each has its original stopper, though one is stuck in the neck from evaporating perfume. See our photos. Each has a little residue of perfume still within, dried by centuries. Some like the scent to remain, which helped me to decide not to clean out the one, nor to soak out the stuck stopper in the other. It is complete. Interesting, one of the sides of one of the little scent bottles has been wheel gouged to make it slightly smaller. It is not chipped - this is an intentional alteration. You can see it clearly in our photos. My experience and instinct is that there would once have been an opaline bead or cabochon there in the center of that flower up top. I could be wrong; they were made with and without. But I mention it in case you're thinking the same thing. I'm thinking pink.
