There's a signature "L, 1847" which makes dating this sweet baby a simple task. A bonnet of lace with a little pink and blue which almost looks like flowers, blue ribbons hanging. The white off-shoulder gown and bonnet would suggest a christening portrait. The beautiful cast 14k gold front to the frame is such a beautiful work, and is substantial. Not just a gold foil, not gold plate. Acid tested at 14k. That's slightly odd for French frame, which in that era was more likely to be 18k, so we're unsure of origin, though I bought it in France. No story with the baby, other than it's obviously been treasured, these 173 years. The paper seal remains intact, holding the little wafer portrait dust-free with its original convex cover glass. We only rarely see this. Measurement of this gem image are noted on our photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. When I see this type of framing, it's easy to assume it was once mounted into a larger mat, perhaps with other family members. It was not made as a brooch, pendant, or jewelry item, and it has no hanging nor easel backing. No flaws to note. No warp, no chips, nothing.
