We've found another of these French doghouse cigar boxes or servers with dog. Just in from France, it's about on the border of vintage and antique, probably c.1920-40, and is in superb condition for age. The lid of the house lifts, but not without you knowing the mechanized key, which is to tilt the dog's head forward. That motion releases the clasp and the lid will open, making this a true 'tantalus' - you know the cigars are there, tantalizing you, but they're locked away unless you know the secret of the mechanical opener. Fun!  It has evidence of having been foil lined originally - you can best see it in the inner lid. I would not consider it a humidor, however, and suggest you do not either. The old woods will warp if moisture or sponge remains inside now. It is not Black Forest, is French made, but we will show it in BF category, too. Large at nearly 12" long, full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent, not a chip or crack, no losses to the ridges of the roof, nor the metal studs dotting them, or to the beautiful little hound at the door in front. Nothing to report, really, but some deterioration of the inner foil lining over time. Displays beautifully, the wood is mahogany (pretty sure). The mechanical aspect is interesting. You tilt the dog's head forward which releases the catch/lever and allows the lid to be raised. Without that motion, do not try to pry the lid, it will remain tightly closed. Fun and functional, it holds 24 cigars.
