The oldest 1750s portrait miniatures are usually quite small, and this is a prime example. This young girl, or female child's face is only 1/2" from chin to hairline, yet the artist has captured a happy child, sweet features, and the lace of her gown and ribbon holding back her long blond hair, and her wide blue eyes so beautifully. I would guestimate her age to be between 6-10 years old. This one is very well preserved beneath its original convex cover glass and in a brass mount frame which likely once was focal point in a wood frame. So many prefer just the portraits, the frames often have been separated over time and so she comes as you see her here. Measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, just as you see her. A very interesting openwork design on the background of this miniature - you see it? Gives depth to the painting. I do not find an artist's signature. Wafer is not damaged, is not warped, and is in fine original form. Difficult photo day - cloudy and so lighting feels slightly off to me, yet you still see what a lovely tiny treasure she is. One can add a wire hanging loop quite easily. I display mine lying flat in table vitrines so I often don't think twice about hanging them. Remnants of a seal on back, nothing there to read. Rare painting of a child, mid-1700s.
