Listed French Artist: Léonie Michaud is the daughter of Léon Michaud and Eugénie Lucas. A student of Basile Lemeunier and Édouard Detaille, she exhibited very well from 1895. She won a 3rd class medal at the Paris Salon in 1905, the 1st prize of the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors in 1913 and the Pillini Prize in 1937. She died unmarried at her home on rue de Belleville at the age of 73. She was buried on March 31, 1947 at the Père Lachaise cemetery. This painting is an intimate portrait of a beautiful young woman, painted in 1912. She wears a red coral necklace, long thought to be a talisman with protective powers for young women and girls. This artist's work has been sold through top auction houses over time, and the only one I could find offered for sale other than our portrait is another larger painting, portrait, for sale in France at 2800 euro (at listing time, the euro and dollar are nearly at parity, equal, so that would be $2869). Collect listed artists, build your estate and enjoy the art! Found in France. Full measurements noted on our photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, remaining in the original frame as well. Sighed at bottom and dated 1912. The backside of the painting is shown as well as the front. No tears or holes in the old linen canvas which is well-stretched on its oval stretcher frame. The old gilded wood frame has a carved bow cornice, and remains in very good condition for age, as well. Displays beautifully!
