One of my favorite oil paintings, this relaxed contemplative young woman in her white dress is caught in a moment in her interior, seated on an old hall chair with slipper on a footstool. Lighted, you see a lot of colorful detail in the room's carpet and walls. I've shown the painting both lighted and not. It's intimate at 22" x 18", and displays in proper French apartment style even without frame as you see her. I found her in France, and there is an old restoration where a split in the canvas once was. You can see a trail of it at certain angles of light, and I've marked it with white 'x' for your close review. Likewise, you see the old canvas repair from backside view of the very old canvas on its stretcher. Lots of photos for your review.
Very good condition for age and type, very few old paintings on stretched canvas survive without some need of restoration, and you see this one has undergone a very old restoration of what appears to have been a straight tear visible on the side of her chair. Otherwise, very little to diminish the beauty and appeal of this one. Dates to c. 1840-50, French. I do not see the artist's signature.
