Louis XV to Louis XVI era snuff box. The box is magnificent on this one, complete without chips or cracks, no bug bites on interior, and the Vernis Martin surface decoration is an interesting and colorful splatter in warm tones, lathe-turned and inlaid with 18k gold scallops around the outer rim. The inlay of 18k gold is repeated in the 18k mat holding the painting in place. There begins the flaws, some bends, visible from all angles in our photos so you can evaluate. Box is 3" in diameter and 7/8" tall when closed.

Very good to excellent on the snuff box, itself, and good condition on the 18k gold mat and perhaps the painting. I did not try to take this one out to slightly shift the painting in its frame, which it needs (you see one edging a little shifted out of round), but my guess is it's been pried out and that's resulted in the roughness of the 18k mat. The painting is 2" in diameter, protected by its original slightly convex cover glass which is clean and without damage. Though the painting is beautifully crafted, I don't see a signature. I'm able to see there is a hairline to the right of the figure (detail photo). So tempting to pry her mount and be sure that is supported from backside, and the painting set more perfectly, but I will leave that decision to her next owner. Box is 3" in diameter and 7/8" tall when closed.
