C.1819 portrait miniature of ID'd "Emily Lissey, daughter of Thomas Jelf Powys, married in 1819", "Lady Hill, wife of Sir Francis Hill (b. 1779), 5th son of Sir John Hill of Petton, Salop." in original elaborate frame.
Superb miniature, elegant beneath the convex original cover glass, and in the original frame, Id'd with information attached to backing. Ready to hang. Original hardware remains, including the blacksmith-made small nails that hold the wooden backing in place. The miniature is painting on a thin wafer, very slight warp only visible if you take her out of her frame, which we did to clean the cover glass. Photos of backside included. Over 200 years old, in a high-fashion Empire gown and jewelry, bodice buckles and tiara influenced by the "French Empire" era of Napoleon and Josephine. Incredibly fine work, though our artist has not signed it.
Very good to excellent condtion throughout. The frame is a heavy hardwood with appliqués which remain nearly entirely intact (see images, small area of gesso appliqués missing). Displays so beautifully, an early Georgian socialite. You can look up more information about her heritage. Outer frame measurements are 10 1/2" x 9 1/2" and it is a full 2 1/2" deepest. Portrait is 4 1/2" x 3 1/2". Perfect wall art for your collection, bookshelf art, or absolutely fabulous for your Bru or other antique doll's house walls. From my personal collection.
