Found in France, it seems like a freehand rich and lushly conceived canvas which is beautifully completed in bright wool yarns and then never used. I love the overall theme of it, though the woman's face seems garish, a bit. I'd thought I might make a large colorful pillow, 20" square and cut her off at the neck (see one image for possible cut), but here I've owned it for a decade at least and haven't done that, nor put it on a stretcher frame to hang in frame on the wall. It's time for this parrot and fruit tapestry to become someone else's wonderful 'find'. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, not any loss to vibrant colored wool yarns, no fading, and no stitches lost. It has been stored and obviously never used. From experience of the canvas, I'd say it dates to c.1900, give or take 20 years. Perhaps a portrait of sorts, and likely worked by a relative young girl. Canvas is supple and strong and would make up beautifully as a large pillow, European pillow size, or equally pleasing on stretcher frame, either hung that way or in a frame of your choosing. Easy projects, either way.
