Antique Victorian era Black Forest hand carved centerpiece, TWO large deer or chamois figures with foliate surroundings holding a shimmering likely Baccarat spiraled glass dish on top and as attractive as can be! The carved base a huge stand for a centerpiece, this 13" tall and 11 5/8" wide carving once held likely a Bohemian or French wheel-engraved glass dish, now it's been replaced with the thick, likely Baccarat swirled glass one you see but it still looks absolutely gorgeous. The base dates to the Victorian era and often those older pieces have been broken somewhere in time which is the case with this one but, as you can see, the figure and most of the carved base are superb. Expertly hand carved from what appears to be one large, solid block of likely Lindenwood and its size alone made it impossible to pass by. Fabulous, rare large hunt style figures and now, with the stunning oval glass dish perched on top, a visual experience to behold.
Very good condition for age and type. This one is remarkable anatomically, and the chamois figures fully intact other than horns or horn tips. The front side up-arching arm/branche which would nest the bowl has been broken off over the years and there are a few chips to the branches but it still holds the dish stable and securely. Even so, a RARE large centerpiece! The glass dish is 10 1/8" x 6 5/8" and 2 3/8" deep. The entire piece, wood & glass, weighs right around 7lbs. All other measurements are noted in the images.
