When travelers brought their elegance along with them, I can see a French model boarding a train, of taxi, luggage brought in by her people. . . this opulent travel vanity purse in hand. A night train Paris to Milan (I've done that one), everything she'd need in a richly appointed make up and nightgown, bag? I've had several of these over time, by other high end noted maker, Hermés, including one in croc. None have been any finer than this opulent and near-pristine Dupont case. There is much to indicate Dupont contracted Hermés to make their goods. Everything from leather to hardware is certainly very alike, and all top quality craftsmanship throughout. I love the size of this one. Gold embossed maker etiquette on the inside. Full measurements noted on the photos, it is almost 11" long.
Very good to excellent condition throughout, age and type considered at all. No real evidence it's ever been used, brushes are super-clean, old boar's hair hand made brushes still with their perfect leather sheaths, and sterling silver for the toothbrush. All of the original jars bottles, and tools except scissors. The only missing item is the simplest to replace with your own favorite manicure scissors. Lift out tray reveals manicure set and comb beneath the perfect mirror. There is also a small tool in its perfect leather sheath, which is the hook for the mirror (anchors into drapery). Handle and bottom corners are all without wear. There is a single flaw to bottom about in center (see images). Finest quality antique ivory brushes - epitome of luxury, and not a single flaw. The inlaid monograms on those are 18k gold.
IMPORTANT NOTE regarding antique tortoise shell or ivory: We are great supporters of protection for endangered species in our modern world. We never buy or sell anything 100 years or newer; we donate to anti-poaching organizations; we don't hunt; we conserve in ways that impact global warming (we're totally solar at home), knowing those measures also protect the animals in the wild today. We also recognize the vast cultural history we preserve with our care and reverence for these antique objects, and agree with CITES that objects over 100 years of age have nothing whatsoever to do with species depletion in our current world.
Our offering exceeds the age limitation of "more than 100 years of age", and is well within the exemption for CITES regulation. If imported, met the CITES regulation. This item will be handled and shipped from our Utah business, and is not available for shipment internationally, nor within the USA to California, NY, Nevada, Hawaii, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington if it contains ivory, sorry.
