Fabulous pair of carved figures salvaged from a large buffet or piece of furniture from the 18th to 19th century. Found in France, the carving is elegant and neoclassical in aesthetic. Figural, one can see them as supports for an upper cabinet above a buffet or hutch, or bookcase. A beautiful set in what seems to be walnut, I can find only a single chip, base of front of one. We've worked these into custom cabinetry, seen them hung on walls or flanking a bracket shelf. You'll have the perfect way to put them to use or on display. Beautifully crafted. Very good to excellent condition, no major damage nor any evidence of restoration. I can point out that the front bottom ornament of one of the supports has been lost. I have marked it with xx on photos to draw attention to it for your review. Pardon the shininess of the photos. They have not been varnished, but they just arrived from France and have undergone cleaning and a beeswax wipe. The shine will diminish as it absorbs and protects the old wood, and the finish will be a bit more satin. They are gorgeous, large, elegant. We're leaving the mount pin at top, but it's simple to saw that level if you're not going to work them into cabinetry or mount a shelf above.
