Very Renaissance in feel, a grotesque and fruit bouquet, I can tell this is an old one, but unsure if it's 18th century or even earlier. It has a feel of Grinling Gibbons' works (the Michelangelo of carved wood, late 17th century). The backing plaque is a contrast in color/wood, and sets off the deep carved sculpture beautifully. Obviously was once mounted in paneling or in cabinetry, it could be hung as wall art now, or framed, mounted on your own cabinetry. Full measurements noted on our photos.

Very good condition for age and type, you can see absolute age to the dark wood figure and fruits carving and also to the contested ligher wood backing. Noting also, a couple of splits in that backing board - we could probably improve those with a weekend glue/table clamp, but want you to know they're there. A few imperfections here or there on the figure, one can fantasize being bumped by a horseman riding up the interior castle stairway to alert the Master of approaching trouble. My imagination runs free!  It's heavy, solid old forest growth wood (figure & fruit). I do not think this is Black Forest but will use that category because it's carved wood. Found in France.
