Fabulous from the outside, this early 1800s travel vanity, or officer's 'necessarie' in fine form for the case but missing the typical silver-topped jars that would have filled the interior fittings. It does retain numerous items in the lift-out tray, including a shell handled knife, a button hook, scissors, ear wax spoon and toothpick, tweezers, bottle corkscrew and bodkin. Superb for display closed, or as a box you can find silver-topped jars to fill in. Movie prop? Yes, it's true that we do sell items that are used in film - one of these old vanity cases of ours was in an episode of Boardwak Empire last season. Fun for a gentleman's dresser.
Good but incomplete condition. The leather outer case is in really quite fine condition for age and type, and there are numerous period or added implements, but the silver- topped jars that would have filled in the compartments have all gone missing over the years. Look over our photos. Measurements noted on photos.
