An old one, c.1850-70s, I'd say, beautifully hand carved spaniel (missing his tail) and a back pack hay or wheat basket on stand. Might have been a spill vase (rolled paper wands to light the fireplace or candles) but I think it's a wonderful server for cigars at table. The cone-shaped basket has a top of about 4" x 3" and narrows toward the bottom to a depth of 3 3/4", so plenty of space for cigars, a pipe and tobacco, long fireplace matches or even a small planter pot. You'll have the perfect spot and idea for use. The spaniel is superb, though he is missing his long tail. He still looks so lifelike and is an Animalier's masterpiece. Base is 7 1/4" x 5 1/4" oval, very sturdy.
Very good for age and type, noted that his long tail is missing. Still, he has the look of a Coker spaniel with short tail so it works. There is a little woodworm, not much. A touch-up to his snout and you won't notice. No pithiness.
