Lovely antique Victorian era Black Forest hand carved 7” square cigar chest, presenter or tantalus with ornate floral & foliate decoration and four sliding trays to hold up to 24 cigars! Tantalus style, the entire lid and front panels lift up to open completely and display the four carved trays inside. Each tray with carved grooves, six each for a total capacity of twenty-four 4.5" cigars. The top of the chest with rose or flower accents surrounding an applied flower & foliage carving bringing the total height to 6 1/8". The front and side panels decorated with carvings of vines & leaves. A fabulous decorative piece whether or not you’re a cigar or tobacco aficionado.
Very good condition, age & materials considered. Some chipping the the feet and there is an age or drying split in the lid panel. Some glue visible inside the lid at the joints and shown in the images. Original lock & hardware, there is a key but it doesn't seem to turn the lock. See pictures for all measurements.
