One will find it perfect as a little lumbar pillow or just a visual treat. Full measurements are noted on the images.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVery good condition for age and type. Certainly can't tell you how long ago this was made up. The gray wool is very good, a fine quality fabric and is preserved without flaw. The center panel of beadwork does show a dark stain near the body of the cat which somewhat blends in but please notice it. No holes, no rips, no tears, and only about 11 tiny glass beads gone missing over time (view the detail image to see - quite easy to replace those, but we'll lave decision to it's next owner). Pillow does not have any odor, no issues, and seems to me to have a cotton batting fill rather than down or feather. It is 12.5\" long, 10.5\" top to bottom and about 3\" thick as it rests. Could be fluffed a bit wider should you like it that way. I used to have a similarly sized needlepoint pillow I used in my car, lumbar support. YOU get to do it, instead.   This pair of late 1700s to early 1800s panels would have been chair back upholstery pieces, and have suffered very little wear as such (seats usually get quite tattered, but back, not much). They are loomed panels, most likely Aubusson, and the subject of 2 children at play is very charming and appealing for pillows. You are buying the pair of slightly odd-shaped panels, as shown, in very good condition. Each panel is large at 18\" tall and 15\" wide (workable with additional distance beyond the folds you can see in the photos - that represents where the outer perimeter was folded back and then tacked to the wooden chair back)Linen warp with wool and perhaps some silk yarns used. You can either fold back and mount to a velvet back larger, or cut the panel as you'd like, and then work up as front to a lavishly fringed pillow pair. I have made up many from this era, quite similar to this one and have sold many over the years. I've loved them for decades. Meant to add this one to the group but here it remains for you to do it or have it done. I've placed a ruler that registers both inches and millimeters so you can see how incredibly tiny these stitches are. Finer than petit-point. And I've only used needlepoint in title because it is basically that type of embroidery stitch, needlework.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVery good to excellent for age and type. The linen canvas is strong. There are really very few flaws, quite remarkable considering the age. There is only the usual scent of woodwork with age, but no odor of mildew or anything similar. The figures are wonderful! The yarns used are all fine, hand dyed, palette range is fabulous and still vibrant. I have shown the backside so you can see the work, original unfaded colors, not so much different than the front side. If there are any fine splits in between woven yarns, I have been bedazzled enough not to notice. You please look closely at the photos just in case. YOU get to do it, instead.   A superb c.1600s to earliest 1700s French Gobelin (or possibly Flemish) woven tapestry, the upper right corner of an outer border salvaged from a much larger wall tapestry, but very interesting subject-wise and also plenty to stitch to a lush velvet or silk panel and then work up as front to a lavishly fringed pillow. Figural fragments are so hard to find! This is a nice larger one 15\" x 14\" outer, but the fact that it is a corner leaves that open space. Interesting, and will be just gorgeous accented there with perhaps antique metal (in gold) passsimenterie (trim), ribbon, something to add accent to that angle. I have made up many from this era, quite similar to this one and have shown at least one in that l group image so you can see how mine turned out. I've loved them for decades. I have a couple of bolster-sized long panels made up for my window seat and meant to make this one up to go along there, but just am not going to get to it. Your gain! There is one spot lower right edging that needs to be stitched - it isn't torn, isn't a split, seems to just be 2 weaving edges that leave a split about 1.75\" in from edge. Just a needle and thread. There are a few spots I can tell have been worked by way of holding small splits together, but it is not a tattered panel and is very suitable for a pillow top. You'll have to adapt that indented part - this was an upper right corner border, I have been bedazzled enough not to notice anything that would prevent me making this into a superb down-filled throw pillow except the time to do it. You please look closely at the photos just in case. It has no visible moth or insect damage or loss. Measurements also appear on the photos. This is from among the most magnificent panels I own and have collected myself over decades. one of my favorites. I'm down-sizing my own collections. This is truly magnificent. Difficult to show in photos with such limitations in size. I purchased this about 20 years ago at auction in Druout in Paris. Paid a lot then, and their description affirms my own research throughout museum collections and reference books. You spend decades devoted to antiques, it's amazing what comes up now and then. I love what I do - all of it! The panel was, in my imagination, going to be worked up as a headboard or hanging for above a bed. I've been storing it in archival linen and tissue all this time, along with many others, and am finally realizing I'm never going to do anything with them but enjoy looking at them. Someone else should have this to hang or to create the perfect way for it to shine for another 500 years. Yes, it is at least that old. There are some areas that show a little tatter. I've shown the very worse, and tried to show you every bit of the panel in sections. Hand dyed wool and silk, fine weaving of spectacular craftsmanship. And the subjects presented are superb.   It is: 70\" long 19\" wide c.1600s - spectacular! Nearly 6 feet long, if framed would be fabulous above your bed! One could also cut in center and make 2 sumptuous long down-filled and lushly fringed pillows, but it seems a shame to cut it. Gorgeous old thing!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVery good condition for age and type. The photos show it well. It has been a wall-hanging. There is a muslim backing that is probably early to mid-1800s. Tapestry is 500 years or so, give or take. From all my experience over the years, and I look at every museum's tapestries and study them all - love them, I do believe it is a fragment of a border panel. I can't imagine what a treasure it was originally woven to surround (70\" of it, anyway).   Watch for more museum quality panels to be listed. The iconography tells us she is still a virgin (the jug is not broken, her purse remains gathered closed), and she is she or turning away from his advances. A lesson, a sampler, this one tells us so much about the life of a late Georgian or early Victorian girl, and reminds her, surely hanging in her room, of what is expected of her in retaining her virtue. Charming theme; a very dainty stitch, entire done by hand, with added outer border of flowers and the text, \"The Last Appeal\" worded across the bottom. Charming! It's English in origin, very early 1800s. Stitches are tiny, more petitpoint than needlepoint. One tiny stitch at a time, imagine how long it would take to complete this. Likely done by a girl aged 10-14 or so.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVery good to excellent condition for age and type. Tiny stitches on old linen warp, has been framed and hung. It is a bit fragile to use as a pillow top and I do not advise it. It should be framed again for display. It shows slightly out of sharp rectangle as it lies relaxed, but it very easily pulls to perfect rectangle for your framing. The outer 3\" or more border is worked separately and sewn to the picture center (view image of backside). And I'm not sure how our photos show it slightly different in coloration, but it is closest to the large full image - warm palette, very pretty. In final image I've draped it across a loveseat at home so you can see how large it truly is. One image shows a measuring tape so you can see how small the stitches are. As noted, not for a pillow or bolster, it wouldn't hold up. I find one of two small areas where there's a separation between rows of stitches, but only if one pulls. It will be gorgeous and invisible, once framed under glass. No odors! Has been stored in my stash rolled in archival tissue and clean cotton, and will be rolled for shipment in tube. Nope, no more entire home redecorating that will incorporate this panel as a headboard, or a massive bolster pillow. Not going to frame it and hang in in my hunting lodge.   This is a magnificent huge Aubusson panel that once graced the back of a very large French canapé, sofa. I have the panel that was upholstery for the seat, too (see it in the final images). I'm offering them separately. This one is a country scene, children and goats, beautiful floral border. The other larger panel (sold separately) is hunt themed, hounds chasing down a large stag. The wool and silk yarns used are delicate in size and so tightly woven, it's a true work of art. Loom arts from the Aubusson factories, long famed in France and throughout the world for their splendor. The panel's background color was once mustard. I've shown the backside so you can see the original yarns. The panel needs a cleaning, though it has no odor, it does have dust of a century, perhaps. I have done nothing to try to clean it. I always intended to use just that rectangular part which isn't darkened so much as the mustard section. That rectangle is 55.5\" x 19\". The overall panel just as you see it in our photos is 66\" x 26\" largest, with some cutaways where it was necessary to fit to the large sofa. You'll know the perfect way to put it to use. Centuries old, finest quality - a museum panel!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVery good condition for age and type. A nod to need of a cleaning, the overall tapestry panel is strong, worthy of most any project - pillows, a topper for a long bench - bolsters. A few spots you'll put time into with a needle and heavy thread, to close smallish openings in the warp. or fine as it is for framing and hanging, instead. It's a tough one to photograph, so I've shown you the overall panels and then close-ups of the figures. One of my favorite panels of my \"stash\". It has been stored rolled, archival tissue and cotton. No weakened spots that represent folds. Before I bought it in Paris, it had been on the old furniture it was made for. For shipment, it will be rolled and shipped in a tube for best protection. You might want the other panel. Flemish verdure, it is in wool that is entirely hand corded, dyed, woven on looms. Linen warp often deteriorated over centuries of hanging and the weight of a full tapestry pulling down on itself through time. But these fragments make up into the most gorgeous throw pillows, even the restorations prove interesting and a true link to its history. I've made up a lot of these into down-filled and silk or silk velvet pillows, lush fringes and just so beautiful as they are. Look at the old sticking that restored it, probably 200 or more years ago, crudely done but yet still a part of something beautiful and to be preserved. This is a finely stitched petitpoint, really, in the needlework style roughly called needlepoint. One tiny stitch over a thread of the linen canvas upon which it is worked, silk and wool yarns used and some metallic threads there at Napoleon III's epaulets. Its has been folded back about a half inch around edges and has been framed. The panel is really quite astonishingly well preserved, and I think it is supple enough to be worked up as centerpoint of a luxurious down-filled and lushly fringed throw pillow. Or certainly can be matted to fit a rectangular frame, or framed without mat in an oval frame. The panel did not come to us with a frame, but it's obvious to me it was always protected within one, under glass. There are no losses to moth or bug, no holes, no lost stitches you'd need to restore. It is a fine old panel. Large, too, at 19.5\" x 14\" - would be spectacular worked into creamy silk moire panel for a pillow top.   Charles- Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, nephew to Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon III, his wife, Empress Eugenie, and their heir to the throne son, all captured here in needlework portrait. Napoleon III, the last Emperor of France and last to have apartments in the Louvre (you can still walk through their living quarters there as part of the museum), elected President of France from 1848-52, then unable to be re-elected, he simply seized power as Emperor and thusly reigned in France from 1852-1870, when he was deposed and exiled to England. He was Born: April 20, 1808, Paris, France, and died: January 9, 1873, Chislehurst, United Kingdom, never returning to his native France after exile in 1873. Empress Eugenie was immensely popular for her beauty and for her aesthetic, which influenced much of the world's decorative taste during those years and beyond. Will be listing a large private collection (my own) of c.1600 = c.1850 tapestry panels. Supple canvas remains and I believe it is fine for use incorporated into an opulent pillow top. Of course these old panels are more for the decorator's touch, not so much to be sat upon, leaned against and otherwise roughly treated. They are focal points. The panel has no splits, no holes. no loss to the wool and silk stitches. I see no evidence of moth or bug damage, there are no odors to it beyond the faint natural scent of wool. No stains. Some wools used are slightly variant in the shade of off-white, as you can see. That is original to the work, and is not fading or staining. There is about 1\/2\" canvas folded backside which can be part of the piece in order to sew it up into a pillow top so you don't lose any of the needlepoint size. A fabulous piece, rare historical portrait. Those stitches on the faces of the figures are less than 1mm each, and even the larger stitches on the panel are smaller than petitpoint items done today. The work you see is one panel of a pair we bought recently out of France, (each sold separately), and represents, we think, Mary praying at the tomb of Jesus. The detail and rich colors in silk and wool yarns is remarkable - Louis XIV or perhaps even earlier, dating 1600s to perhaps earliest 1700s, it is one of the earliest needlework items we've offered that is complete, undamaged and ready to frame and hang. No, you wouldn't want to turn this one into pillowtops, I think it would be too fragile for that, but it's superb on the stretchers we've found it on and will be a favorite of anyone who collects needle arts, women's art, certainly for its age and fine composition and delivery. I can't begin to imagine how long this would have taken to complete but I can tell you it could well be a life's work in this and its companion panel (sold separately). Remember women were discouraged from schooling even into the Victorian era and so these \"women's art\" pieces stand for the learning and training a gentile young lady would have been afforded, and are therefore all the more precious. The two young girls in this one and the interior that houses them is so wonderful! Balance of composition is very fine in this one. It might be done after a fine painting (a copy made after, that is, or to look like). I believe this one is French or English in origin, but it could be any number of countries in Europe, early to mid-1800s, all of whom practiced such needle arts. The frame is in nice condition and houses this old treasure well. We'll leave the cover glass on but will fully tape it for safe shipment, unless our buyer wishes to have it removed to ship more safely. The wool and silk yarns used are delicate in size and so tightly woven, it's a true work of art. Loom arts from the Aubusson factories, long famed in France and throughout the world for their splendor. The panel's background color was once mustard. I've shown the backside so you can see the original yarns. The panel needs a cleaning, though it has no odor, it does have dust of a century, perhaps. I have done nothing to try to clean it. I always intended to use just that rectangular part which isn't darkened so much as the mustard section. That rectangle is 65.5\" x 21\". The overall panel just as you see it in our photos is 76\" x 35\" largest, with some cutaways where it was necessary to fit to the large sofa. You'll know the perfect way to put it to use. But at some point it has been professionally preserved and you can see a very very fine mesh overlaying the sewing in that upper half or more. The foreground, mostly silk embroidery, is left open to the stitches. A very nice work, indeed, and protected under glass in the large period frame. More to a petit point or micro point. The palette of colors remains rich, and not really indicative of any fading. Delicate working in the skirt creates a folded fabric, and the perspective adds to the feeling of depth. As you can see, the old mill-sawn wood backing boards remain. I wasn't able to photograph the stitches from the back to show you how close to original yarn colors this one is, but it's quite vibrant and lively, as you can see. It might well be a self-portrait. The girls often painted the canvas first and then worked the yarns. A very talented young lady, indeed. The frame, added much later, is a full 31\" x 28\".  While I have no signature to go by, as to whom the delicately worked canvas either belonged to or was embroidered by, the subject and execution of this large tapestry is truly magnificent. There are no evidences of damage, or bug-eaten spots in the silk and wool stitches. Very fine in nature and size, it's really a lovely work and likely done by a young girl. The faces are particularly tiny micro-point stitches and lend personality to each figure. Heavy due to the large glass. We might suggest it will be safer to ship with glass removed and then replaced. It is not the old laid glass which would have had tiny bubbles in it. So the value of the glass will be minimal and much less costly and safer to ship without. Up to our customer, however. Beautiful palette, perhaps light fading. We can't compare with the yarns on backside as it is sealed against dust and etc.. YOU get to do it, instead.   This pair of late 1700s to early 1800s panels would have been chair back upholstery pieces, and have suffered very little wear as such (seats usually get quite tattered, but back, not much). They are loomed panels, most likely Aubusson, and the subject of 2 figures at play is very charming and appealing for pillows. One, seated woman, has her pet bird, and the gentleman plays badminton, you can see his racket and shuttlecock. You are buying the pair of slightly odd-shaped panels, as shown, in very good condition. Each panel is large at 17\" tall and 13\" wide (workable with additional distance beyond the folds you can see in the photos - that represents where the outer perimeter was folded back and then tacked to the wooden chair back)Linen warp with wool and perhaps some silk yarns used. You can either fold back and mount to a velvet back larger, or cut the panel as you'd like, and then work up as front to a lavishly fringed pillow pair. I have made up many from this era, quite similar to this one and have sold many over the years. I've loved them for decades. Meant to add this one to the group but here it remains for you to do it or have it done. I've placed a ruler that registers both inches and millimeters so you can see how incredibly tiny these stitches are. Finer than petit-point. And I've only used needlepoint in title because it is basically that type of embroidery stitch, needlework.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eVery good to excellent for age and type. The linen canvas is strong. There are really very few flaws, quite remarkable considering the age. There is only the usual scent of woodwork with age, but no odor of mildew or anything similar. Backed with an anchoring linen and ready to make up into pillow tops. The figures are wonderful! The yarns used are all fine, hand dyed, palette range is fabulous and still vibrant. I have shown the backside so you can see the work, original unfaded colors, not so much different than the front side. If there are any fine splits in between woven yarns, I have been bedazzled enough not to notice. You please look closely at the photos just in case. They have no visible moth or insect damage or loss. Measurements also appear on the photos. The presence of the young woman's spaniel being quite rare. Dated in the work, 1782, the panel was always intended to get a thick beveled mat and be put into a period frame. But it's time for someone else to decide which frame, and whether to do a more typical eglomise glass\/mat.  It is being offered just as you see it. No frame. The work on wooden plaque stretcher is 12.5\" x 10.25\" oval, worked area slightly smaller.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVery good to excellent condition throughout. No missing or deteriorated stitches, and it is a stunning accomplishment in silk, chenille threads, a painted face and hands being about the only surface not covered in those incredible stitches. The spaniel is particular fun, and those flowers lower left, delightful. All of the memorial and 'eternal' icons represented: Dying tree signifying end of life; new blossoms signifying the eternal nature of life springing anew; the tomb; Weeping willow or tree overhang signifying the weeping of the mourners.  We don't know the age of Miss Julia Mary Richards when she did this work, but typically it would be a girl between 8-13. The lining is loose from the top and seems to only go about half-way the depth of the purse. I'm sure you'll want to replace it if you intent to use this old beauty.
