I have kept these 2 masterpiece tapestry fragments for many years, determined to make up into tops of 4 opulent down-filled decorator pillows, flanked by a complimenting heavy silk or silk velvet fabric and backed with same, trimmed out with lush fringe, perhaps even gold thread passementerie trim and braid - can't you just imagine! But it seems unlikely I'm going to redecorate a bedroom or living room at this point. You might. Such an easy project, making decorator pillows. I found these figural and pillar panels in Paris. They are each 12" wide, one is 34" long and the other 38" long. Vertical in orientation, that gives you 4 panels 17" tall to work with - make your pillows as wide as you wish.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. These are quite superb, fine wool and silk yarns all hand spun and dyed. I would have loved to see the huge wall tapestry from which this was a piece. Strong and supple, strong enough to become pillows, and the colors - sublime. Woad dye for the blues, greens, the panels could be c.1600s or even earlier. No evidence of sun damage or fade, no holes. These have already been professionally restored at any points of weakness. Do back them with a muslin fabric when you make your pillows, to not put undo stress on the actual tapestry. OR, have them framed as the works of art they truly are.
