Unsigned early 1800s antique oil painting 'after' or an artist's rendition of a charming painting originally by Paolo Caliari, called VERONESE 1528-1588 Two little girls & dog a larger painting done c. 1560 and called "Supper at Emmaus". You see the scene in full in our reference photo, but the portion our artist has concentrated on is front and center, a vignette from the work which hangs now in the Louvre, Paris. Beautifully done, the painting is rich in palette, enormous in appeal. A wonderful portion of the Veronese original. Still in the original early to mid-1800s frame, it is 22" x 18.25" x 2". Full measurements noted on our photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The painting on stretched linen canvas is in excellent condition, no holes, repairs visible, beautifully preserved. The frame does show the age, is a very old one as you can see by the way it is made from behind, and it does show age to the gilded face, as well as some restoration efforts, so look it over closely. I think it displays beautifully. A real gem with creative origins reaching to 16th century artist of massive importance. The final photos show the painting from which this one is copied, and the final photo shows Veronese giant masterpiece which is on permanent display on the wall facing the tiny Mona Lisa.
