Interesting portrait, this. Not knowing, you might think she is just a girl in a white dotted gown with a red shawl, maybe Napoleonic era. But if you know the iconography, the clothing styles and the reason she has that draped red shawl or scarf, it helps you date her more accurately. Her portrait is a political statement, as is her fashion. Royalist to the bone, she wears the guillotine haircut and the red silk scarf is a symbol of the blood that flowed during the French Revolution, and The Terror. She may have lost a family member, her parents perhaps. The portrait defines her and identifies her as a Royalist, waiting for the next coronation of a true King for France.

Very good to excellent, a small portrait, incredible the her image can be enlarge to the point I have here and it still holds together. You see the tiny dots on her white gown, and the pupils in her blue eyes. Yet that face is only 5/8" from chin to hairline. Overall, incredibly well preserved. She may have been a titled person, herself, and may have had to flee France to be safe. Both painting and frame remain in superb condition. Measurements are noted on the photos.
