This 18th century portrait miniature has a folk art feel to it, not as elegantly done as most we collect and offer, but it has it's own charm. A handsome young gentleman in blue coat and embroidered vest turns on the chair and looks at his artist as if casually. It's housed in an interesting ebony frame, an aperture that does not use a brass mat. The back end is sealed, and I have not opened it. Glass seems clean and clear. I've wondered a bit if he might have been among the Incroyables youth political movement, c.1795-99, but I am not certain of it. Measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Original convex cover glass, and while the painting is less professional than most we're drawn to, it has something special. The frame is just excellent, seems to me to be ebony, which would have been an added value frame in its time. I really see no flaws to note.
