The subject of this beautifully hand carved 19th century cabinet door panel is rather unique, sea life, and while it is carved in a manner that makes it look like Black Forest work, it is likely a French carved panel, instead.  It would have been on of the cabinet doors to a buffet or larger furniture piece, or perhaps one built into a room's paneling.  Wonderful now either hung as art or decor in a kitchen or built into the cabinetry in your home. Yacht owners, perfect theme to build into a wine cabinet or even a vanity. You'll have just the spot for it. Panel is 22" x 19 7/8", and is 3" at deepest point (the lobster and eel).

Very good to excellent condition, age and type considered. The deep bas relief carving is without chips, very nicely preserved. I see 2 small issues to note and have done so with an 'x' directly on our photos for your review. One is a very clean split on upper left canted corner of the outer trim. The other is a fine tight hairline showing where the 2 half panels that are joined to make the backing show that seam. Solid, it's just visible, not a break. The outer perimeter shows about 1/2" of lighter board which would have been framed into cabinetry or paneling. You may wish to put a formal frame around it, but most hang these just as they are.  We found it in France. It is a single panel.
