Such a beautiful little bit of history, this elegant little coin purse with silk interior and mother of pearl plaques would have thrilled someone during the Napoleon III era in France. Perhaps a Victorian Grand Tour traveler, or perhaps a child at their first communion, it's been beautifully treasured for at least a century and a half. Kiln-fired enamel plaque mounted in a cartouche of silver, celeste blue (Sevres blue) with florals is a little masterpiece, and it against the mother of pearl's shimmering colors is just gorgeous.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, each side panel is without cracks or breaks. No issues with the silver cartouche and the enamel plaque is pristine. The sides are crimson very thin leather, a strip of red silk at hinge, and interior is red silk, a split at the baffles (see images). Such a sweet and unusual coin purse.
