A fabulous signed painting, a favorite theme of mine - Nature morte, or still life showing game caught or killed in advance of a meal preparation. These are not about hunting so much, though they appeal to those. These are traditional paintings for kitchens, more a prayer of thanks for the bounty of Nature and the next meal. Humble times, old ways - the beauty of nature and portrait of the duck (in this case) who sustains the family. Painted in almost a troupe l'oiel manner, the fowl hangs on a nail against what is a natural panel of wood and wood grain. Often these are unframed, hung with no frame, perhaps from a simple nail through a hole drilled. This one is larger than most and is framed nicely in a simple wood frame 1" in depth. At listing, there is no hanging apparatus, but we will add it to the frame so it can be immediately hung by its next owner. Photos show the delicate brush strokes of the artist, Theodore Sevigne, who dates his c.1905 work of art.

Very good to excellent, the oil painting on board usually survive very well, no canvas to damage or tear. I found it in France, and it's more elegant than my photos show it. Fabulous palette and composition, and large and impressive on the wall. Full measurements and detail shown in the photos. I've been on a bit of a buying binge lately for these wonderful French still life paintings (some shown in final photos), all sold separately. Cabin, Lodge, Den, Kitchen - fabulous all! Superb compliments to Black Forest carvings.
