The short hair, clipped in back and piled longer in front with curls, or spiked - that was the "Titan" or guillotine haircut worn by some in the decade following The Terror part of the French Revolution. I've looked very closely, and it seems possible she is thus shorn of her hair, a way to show simpatico or of mourning the lost Royals (Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette) or perhaps family members also lost to the guillotine during that horrific period in the history of France. An interesting time. The haircut mimicked the shearing of women's long hair to open the neck fully to the blade. If her blue shawl was red, instead, I'd be more certain her image bears that iconography. She wears a rather unique thick curved and no doubt hollow gold hair ornament, not quite like the ones a bit later in Napoleon's time. Slender gold chain necklace, twice-wrapped around her neck. She is in a large pendant style frame with a visible front cover, engraved plate which does test 18k gold. The plaque is mounted to a backing that is not 18k gold. Bale and loop are each 18k gold, as well.

Very good to excellent condition, I have not ever opened this one to be certain it is painted on the wafer of mother of pearl, but I believe it to be. Beautifully preserved, it is a large pendant with original convex cover glass, engraved 18k gold face plate on this one, backing to it is not 18k gold. Measurements are noted on the photos.
