It always amazes me, really, to see the incredibly fine detail and artist's skill in these early portrait miniatures. This one is tiny, only 2 1/8" x 1 1/2" oval (frame), and yet look at how elegant it truly is. Enlarging it to the sizes we do to show it to you, it still is a stunning portrait. Keep in mind, her face in only a little over 1/2" in height. I do not see an artist's signature, but I didn't open up the frame to check inside. Sometimes a bit of information is noted within. From hair and gown, her painting was done between 1820-1830s. Such expressive eyes. Not a great beauty, but her image here is just exquisite.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. This is the original frame, cover glass, etc., and the super-thin wafer has a tiny bit of shrinkage of age, making it need an adjustment within its frame. In some images you can see a hint of the edge (upper right quadrant) which indicates that typical shrinkage. She's exceptional for a work so tiny! From my own collections.
