It is very likely this set was made at the famed Barbedienne foundry, 19th century, which produced some of the finest champleve enamel and bronze pieces made. I am not, however, finding a Barbedienne impressed maker mark. Many pieces created by the top foundry in France were unsigned, as along with fine art castings of the most famous sculptors now found in museums, they also did sets like this and elaborate boxes, tazza, and other decorative objects marketed through Paris's finest shops, Palais Royal included. This is a 3-pc set likely originally for cigars or pipe smokers, but is unstained and perhaps considered, accurately, as a desktop set with pen tray. I see no reason why one wouldn't wish to use it in food service, really. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout, the hand crafted forms and the kiln-fired enamel work is stunning. Shading in the enamel, top form and condition, too. I find no chips. Well treasured, it would date Napoleon III era, c.185-70s, or shortly thereafter. We did not polish, and this is the gilt bronze finish just as you see it. Dore bronze, heavy, no dents or flaws to note.
