The artist has signed his or her work, and rightfully so. A very elegant original painting of this woman in her maturity and in a diaphanous and beaded gown. Even beyond the invention of photography, some patrons of the arts continued to have portrait miniatures done out of tradition, or just for a love of the genre. This one would date c.1890-1920, and is in a richly appointed leather frame case which once had an easel stand in back. It still stands without it, and her larger pearl-detailed oyster-shaped frame hangs on its mount in the perfect fitted interior, or can be hung on a wall, the case preserved separately for her.  We do not have her ID. The painting was purchased in France and the signature of the artist is "Gittings". I found nothing on the artist, and am unsure of the origin of this woman or her incredibly talented artist.  It seems very likely this painting was done as a souvenir on this woman's Grand Tour.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The outer case shows some age and is missing the original easel stand on back. Opulent soft leather which has been gold-embossed, the case is wood without warp, closes smoothly and well, and sets off the painting beautifully. The frame is without flaw, as is the painting. I only photographed her in her frame and through convex glass, so perhaps a glare here or there. No flaws to note on her portrait. The seed pearls are complete around, evenly matched and beautiful. I am unsure if they are cultured (likely) or real.
