A really splendid 19th century Swiss hand carved wall plaque, Fruits of the Hunt still life with hunger's powder horn, and fox and game hen hung after the hunt and ahead of the meal preparations. Oak leaves against the back - all to have once been mounted on a flat but ornately carved larger wooden plaque for wall. This is the important part, the intricate Animalier study and true sculpture for the larger plaque. The figures group is carved from a single piece of wood (see images of back side) and is 18 1/2" tall, 10 1/2" widest, impressive and will be beautiful hung on your walls (or mine - I have lots of Black Forest carvings in both homes!). Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. It has a couple of minor flaws, and let me point them out for review: That marvelous fox misses a part of one front leg - the one closest to the back, and it's not very noticeable. The oak leaves up top on the carved group have a couple of leaf tips chipped. Amazingly, the game hen's wing which juts out into the front and gives the piece it's deepest depth is not broken (most have been) and shows a tiny 3/16" inch chip on a feather close to the body. The legs are there, and clawed bird feet, and a small tip of the other wing is mssing (you likely won't even notice that. Exquisite anatomical study on both fox and hen. One of the best!
