Massive & rare antique German hallmarked Continental .800 (nearly sterling) silver & wheel cut crystal 5" square desk top inkwell with rococo style accenting to the silver top & large engraved interlaced "MW" or "WM" monogram! I'm always looking for these fabulous old oversized inkwells, this being one of the larger that I've come across recently and isn't it spectacular! A huge 5" square crystal body weighing in at over 4 lbs and the way the base is cut makes it simply sparkle like diamonds. It bears the standard German crown & crescent moon hallmarks, the "800" means that the silver top is in at least 80% pure solid silver (the standard for the region at the time). The silversmith is Alfred Roesner of Dresden and dates to the 1890s. A magnificent piece, don't miss it!
Very good to excellent condition. There is one small nip to the base, possibly a few tiny nicks but no larger chips, cracks or damage. The silver top also free of any dents or dings. See pictures for weight and all measurements.
