Artist signed oil painting on board, "E. Wahanin", turn of century, c.1900, give or take 10 years. Beautiful composition, the woman holds a letter, shows emotion of sadness, perhaps resignation. One understands it isn't good news. Sensitive portrait capturing a moment in a life. The oil painting is, as noted, painted on a 1/4" thick wood board. Typically those suffer little or no loss of paint compared to canvas paintings, but this one has a restored clean break to the right of seated woman, visible at certain angles of view/light. Still, a brilliant art work, at once intimate and mournful, and beautiful. I accessed my art price search membership but did not find this artist listed there, and I have no further information. I found the painting in Paris. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good condition for age and type, with mention of an old restoration - an old clean break in the wood just to the right of the seated figure, which has been restored and professionally retouched as needed. No other problem areas and she does display well.
