As I've explained, there are basically 2 types of portrait miniatures. The more important are those which are a singular painting in miniature of a person sitting for their portrait. The ones like this one are less valuable and were painted to be sold as souvenirs, often "après" or after a more famous painting by a noted artist which hung in museums just visited by Grand Tour travelers. Set up with easels and displays outside of the museums, artists would eek out a living doing these. It is a fact that some later very famous artists also worked in this way in order to maintain themselves while they worked on their "real" art. This little one is simple and charming, a lower end tourist painting, slightly stylized and of a lovely young woman outdoors with her dog. Sweet little work of art and nicely framed, it would be 2nd half of 1800s or perhaps a bit into 1900s. Measurements are noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition, all photos were taken with it in the frame and under the slightly convex cover glass. While backing has been opened, the tabs are abbreviated and I did not wish to bend them again for fear of losing the anchors to the little painting. Charming one for a doll's house, or for the beginning collector.
