Fabulous antique hand painted portrait miniature in original fitted episode style green leather covered case, an ID'd depiction of Aimee de Coigny, Duchess de Deury with fine jewelry, arms crossed and a book at her side! A delightful, colorful little painting and still in its original case! No signature on the front but the backing has handwritten text that identifies the sitter and also states that the artist is Eve Pierrepont or Piercepont(sp?) and painted in 1905 from/apres a miniature on an antique snuff box. Wonderful!
Aimée de Coigny (12 October 1769 – 17 January 1820) was a French noblewoman who was known as a great beauty and was imprisoned during the French Revolution. André Chénier's elegy la Jeune Captive, published in 1795, was inspired by her ordeal.
Very good condition. The portrait is pristine, no loss or damage and even has the original vellum? seal on the back affixing it to the convex glass. The frame has a bit of tarnish but no damage. The case is, as you can see, show its age some, mostly evident in the interior lining which is quite tattered. Exterior in fine shape with some marks but has the original clasp. See images for all measurements.
