Fabulous old fire screen panel, beadwork and needlepoint embroidery (silk yarn pale yellow background has deteriorated) has a thrilling crest, both lion and unicorn and much of the rest in heavy glass beadwork alternating with heavier and well-preserved wool needlepoint. Colorful, very suitable to frame as art, but I don't think I would advise this one for a down-filled pillow.
Very good condition for age and type - While it must have been a real beauty mid-1800s, the fine silk yarn hasn't held up to time as well. I couldn't pass it by, however - stunning old thing. Stored rolled with archival tissue, no unpleasant odors. Few beads to replace - look at all photos for an evaluation of the project. I think it just needs to be framed under glass. That tattered brown silk backing fell apart after photos and we tossed it since it was truly of no use. Dates c.1840-50s.
