Elegant and rare antique tested 16k gold Damascene inlay or overlay hair comb with ornate scrolling vines or tendrils and wonderful condition! Highly intricate inlay, it tests as at least 16k gold in that top area and is as stunning as can be! Damascening is the art of inlaying different metals into one another—typically, gold or silver into a darkly oxidized steel background—to produce intricate patterns similar to niello. The English term comes from a perceived resemblance to the rich tapestry patterns of damask silk. Truly remarkable, both the process and end result as you can see here. A work of art! Very good condition. There is a bit of wear to the gilding on the tines or teeth and possibly very slightly bent in a spot or two (teeth). I see no other flaws to note whatsoever, just gorgeous front and back. See pictures for all measurements.
