Must have been a very popular late 19th century carved souvenir, the woodland crucifix is a theme we've found over and over again through the decades, some as holy font and some like this one showing the gentle lamb (of God) resting at the foot of the cross. Entirely hand carved, those long fronds and the delicate vine climbing the cross are undamaged by time. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Entirely hand carved, those long fronds and the delicate vine climbing the cross are undamaged by time. The lamb seems to me to be missing ears, though it doesn't look chipped, so perhaps it was just the carver's artistry?
