A beautiful antique tapestry fragment someone has lovingly restored, mended any loose warp, and made it into a wall hanging complete with a 1 1/2" wide 19th century French passementerie braid trim, and a fine silk backing which has been hand-sewn as a backside lining. It would be so simple to make this one into the topper of a lush and gorgeous down-filled throw pillow - the bulk of the work has been done. The panel as it is measures 21 3/4" long and 20 1/2" tall. In some of the photos I have draped the panel over my existing sofa pillows to show you both size and how beautiful it would be made up.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, a fine loom woven panel which is a fragment from a large wall hanging, someone has mended any spots where a split might have been (the old warps sometimes have given way in these old ones). Trim has been hand sewn and so has the silk lining on the backside (stitches detailed in our photos). Many hours have gone into this one, and those of us who love the old tapestries will all appreciate the work some admirer did to save this 300+ year old work of art. I'm not certain of maker, likely Gobelin or Aubusson, though it's awfully fine 100l and silk yarn - Beauvais?  No odor, no stains. Care in cleaning it as well as the stitches done to secure it for future collectors. I found it in Paris, fully intending to make it up into a designer/decorator down-filled opulently fringed sofa pillow.
