Perfectly preserved and nearing 300 years in Age, this fabulous little portrait survives some 17 generations beyond the woman whose perfect likeness has been frozen in time. Interesting eyes, suspecting or discerning - she's wonderful! We almost never have an ID attending the old portrait miniatures, and most often there is not a signature of the artist, which could help in a rigorous search for more info. She's obviously a woman of nobility, French, and her fashion places her in time. The frame is a bit unusual, dore bronze and very ornate. Convex cover glass is the original, and I gave it a better cleaning while I had her out for photos. Full measurements noted on the photos, but her face is just 3/4", chin to hairline - quite amazing! If you've followed us long, you know my love of art, and that I've collected portrait miniatures for 4 decades. All disbursing now. Come back for more!

Very good to excellent condition throughout. Gouache on thin wafer, typical of the genre, you can see the remnants of the paper seal which would have mounted her painting to the cover glass and kept out any dust or tiny bugs - no damage. No warp, no hairlines or imperfections to the painting, convex cover glass or frame. All display beautifully. (I photographed the glass before I cleaned it - please overlook its 270 or so years of dinge in the opened photo).
