A darling spaniel carved perfectly with a wooden bucket that was likely meant to hold spills or matches, and which now has a glass insert one might use as an inkwell. It's the cutest thing - this little pooch, and has survived remarkably unscathed. I don't see any chips or losses at all to the shaggy spaniel nor to the bucket he looks into. The base is also beautifully carved and well preserved, with a nod to 3 small holes (see photos). Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, as noted above. No chips or breaks, I note that there are 3 small holes as if drilled in the backside (see photos). There is a glass cup fitted to the bucket. I bought it as an inkwell (France) but I have seen these in many forms and believe they were initially popular as match holders or spill holders at fireplace mantel.
