Just love the old 19th century hand carved Swiss Black Forest "Fruits of the Hunt" theme carved wall plaques! Have them hanging in both houses, and we're always on the lookout for really fine ones. This one we found in France, and it is just about 16" tall, 11" wide and a full 3.5" in bas relief depth - that carving. The game hen so elegantly conceived and crafted by hand there on the plaque is just magnificent. So lifelike, and just about life-size on this plaque.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Not a single chip to note on the bird, which is wonderful since we normally see chipped beak, feather tips on wings, leg or claws - something. The plaque does, however, have 2 chips noted with "x" on photo for your review. Both the very top and very bottom trim has a knob lost to time. Still, hangs beautifully and the lighter wood finish shows every spectacular detail. Someone has put a hanging hole in the bottom of the plaque, having hung the bird upside down at some point (it hangs with head down, of course, and not head up). Size is wonderful for display on a bookshelf, perhaps, but it's meant to hang on wall. Don't miss this one!
