Wonderful antique French Napoleon III to Belle Epoque era hand carved oak Christ sculpture or corpus, unique Medieval style with fabulous decorative appeal and displayed on a 19.5" solid wood cross!  Isn't this one interesting! We're not quite as religious as most but I simply love these old hand carved religious pieces and figures!  Visiting the display of carved wood and ivory works in Notre Dame or the Louvre in Paris definitely a highlight of every trip. This one depicting Christ in an expired position, head/eyes downcast, eyes closed and wearing the thorn crown. Nice size, too, the figure is 10.75" tall.  The cross is in solid wood, rather plain and possibly not original, and measures 19 5/8" x 12 3/8". A fine piece, whether it's the devotional or decorative (or both) aspects you find alluring. Very good condition. This one has the original 'INRI" plaque above the figure. Both the cross and corpus are in fine shape with possibly a tiny nip or two but no larger sighs of damage or repair, not even a single chipped or missing finger. An wonderful piece!
