Fabulous antique French Victorian to Edwardian era solid oak & reticulated brass or bronze 11" picture frame with either a hand colored photo or hand painted watercolor portrait miniature on paper! I purchased this one because of the gorgeous oversized frame but then looked more closely at the portrait and really love them both together. It's of an old white bearded gent, seated and holding a book with artist's signature or marking of some sort in pencil in the lower left! I've included enlargements of the signature but haven't been able to decipher it myself and to be honest, I really can't be certain if it's a watercolor or colored photo (I really need Susan's expertise but she's out of town this week). In any event, I've priced it as if just for the frame in the meantime. A beautiful and rare oversized piece really, in wonderful condition and with loads of visual & decorative appeal!
Very good to excellent condition. There are a few small brass tacks missing from the reticulated portion but I believe I have a few extras that will work. No chips, warping or damage to the oak frame or backing that I can see. It has a hang ring on the back and looks as though it originally had an easel stand but it's been lost over the years.
