Typically we think of these silk velvet cases as English Victorian. The fashion and features of the pretty young woman hints also at likely English heritage. Purchased from "a gentleman's collection", a curious added ID'd and aged backing was in the mix which might indicate she's been cased after having once been in a frame, and perhaps her name is Isabelle, hard to read, but will be included and is shown in our photos. That wooden backing with information was bagged with this cased image. If notation is accurate, she eventually died in 1870.  Measurements in full on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the portrait is undamaged, nicely protected in a mount which has its original velvet case. Photos show all. Hinge and clasp in fine working order, as well. The added backing suggests it may have once been in a frame, and gives an ID (see images). Will be sent along, as it came to me. The old silk velvet covered wood case is without warp or damage other than the typical loss of some of the nap from the velvet, particularly at folds/edges, as shown.
